The Texas Society of Enrolled Agents, TxSEA, was formed in 1989 with the merger of two Enrolled Agent groups - the Texas Society of Enrolled Agents and the Texas Enrolled Agent Society.

At the 1989 National Association of Enrolled Agent annual meeting in Chicago, IL, the Articles of the Texas Society of Enrolled Agents were presented to the NAEA and TxSEA became the official state affiliate of NAEA.

In the twenty years since its formation, TxSEA has grown in influence and membership, now more than 500 in number. Its chapters are located state-wide, in Plano, the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, Houston and San Antonio and represent the strength of the society.

The influence of the Texas Society of Enrolled Agents spans from Austin, across the state through liaison with the Internal Revenue Service to Washington DC with many TxSEA members participating in NAEA committees from Education to Government Relations.

TxSEA can boast having many members serve as Directors of both the NAEA Board as well as the NAEA Education Foundation. Two TxSEA members have served as the President of the National Association of Enrolled Agents.

While the profession of Enrolled Agent was created by Congress in 1884, the Texas Society of Enrolled Agents was created in 1989, 105 years later. Members and associates adhere to strict rules of professional conduct, requirements for continuing professional education and a Code of Ethical Conduct.

TxSEA Mission:

The purpose of the Texas Society of Enrolled Agents is to protect and promote the Enrolled Agent profession, and to be the organization of choice for tax professionals.

What is an Enrolled Agent?

An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a federally-authorized tax practitioner who has technical expertise in the field of taxation and who is empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels of the Internal Revenue Service for audits, collections, and appeals.
